On the day we chose to go to Munich I begged the guys to stop at Dachau Concentration Camp first.  The Holocaust is something I studied more than most during junior high and high school. I even went to summer enrichment learning camps at a college in the summer to study the Holocaust more in depth, I read the Diary of Anne Frank dozens of times and absorbed any information I could on the terrible event.  I never imagined I’d be able to step foot in Dachau or any other concentration camp.  When we decided to visit Germany I knew I had to make it happen.  The day wasn’t ideal as it was raining and the boys really weren’t interested.  We didn’t spend a lot of time there but it was enough for me to take in the weight of where I stood and say some prayers as we explored a little.

Afterwards we headed into Munich and saw the Marienplatz, the Viktualienmarkt (Victual’s Market) which is a large farmer’s market in downtown Munich, and the Hofbrauhaus.  We also had our first Starbucks since moving to Europe.  :-).  I absolutely love Italian coffee but it was nice to have something familiar and a little different than usual.

The following day was our last in Germany so before we took Uncle Jordan to the train station and headed to Bologna we got to do Justin’s #1 Germany bucket list item… ascend the Zugspitze via cable car.  This is not something I had any desire to do.  In fact I was totally against it.  It really meant a lot to Justin that I came… on the way up I literally sat on the floor of the cable car rocking back and forth.  I was terrified.  Once we got to the top it was so cold and a little difficult to breath the thin air.  I wasn’t at all impressed until we stepped outside.  Holy wow!  As I looked around I couldn’t think but say a little prayer in mind thanking God for the amazing creation he has given to us to enjoy and take in.  It was just absolutely stunning.  And I’m glad to be able to say that I visited Germany’s highest point, how fun!  It’s definitely an experience I would recommend to anyone spending time in Bavaria.  I got up the nerve to look out on our ascent in the cable car and I’m so glad I did.  It was amazing!  Enjoy these images from the second half of our adventures in Germany!
