“Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.” – Ray Bradbury
Saturday was an absolute dream come true, a day spent on the Amalfi Coast. It was like driving straight out of real life and into a post card!
Just spectacular!
We were beyond lucky that our friend Matt let us borrow his car all weekend while he was traveling to Munich. (THANKS MATT!) We jumped at the opportunity to get off base. Waiting for our car to arrive has been excruciating and the get-away was overdue!
We started our day in the little town of Vietri Sul Mare. Since most Italians vacation in mid-August, we expected it to be super crowded and for traffic and parking to be awful. That was NOT the case! We found a spot right in front of the beach access and spent two hours in the sun, surf and sand. It was amazing! The water was beautiful, the Italians were fun and friendly. A small rain shower blew through while we were on the beach and cooled everything off. It wasn’t so much rain that our things were soaked, but enough to drive some people off the beach. The boys really enjoyed playing in the water and the sand. Harper even found a pretty little piece of sea glass that he was so proud to give me.
After leaving Vietri we decided to spend the hour and a half driving along the Amalfi Coast Road. It’s twisty, turny and on the edge of the cliffs! I thought I would be way more anxious and scared than I was. It was just breathtaking… I enjoyed every second of the drive!
We decided to stop in Positano for dinner and to explore a little. Positano was featured in the movie Under the Tuscan Sun and has always been on my bucket list. I’m so excited to have checked that one of the list but I cannot wait to go back already! It was the most perfect and charming place.
While we were eating dinner at the Positano Cafe (AMAZING VIEW!) another storm blew through. This one was pouring rain, angry winds and plenty of thunder. Luckily it didn’t last long either and we enjoyed a cool walk back to the car, stopping to take more photos along the way.
I absolutely love taking photos after it rains! Cloudy skies can give you a much more even exposure and everything is just different, fresher. And you can get lots of great reflections in your images!
I only took two different lenses with me on Saturday because we were winging it and I didn’t want to lug too much gear. I’m still pretty excited about the images we took even though they do no justice to the scenes we experienced.
I was really in awe of God’s creation and so thankful for the chance to be there and soak it all in. We all agreed this day was one of the best we’ve ever spent together. I’m already looking forward to our next adventure in Amalfi! Enjoy the photos!
Makes me smile reading your blog and seeing the pictures. Takes me on a trip with you!
Sigh…..So beautifully written!! I’m so thankful for modern technology so we can follow your journey!! The pictures are AMAZING!!
