Our 5th wedding anniversary was August 13th!
Since we’d only be in Italy for about a month it was hard to coordinate something for the actual day. We originally wanted to celebrate the weekend after but August 15th is a huge holiday here in Italy so everything was shut down. I was lucky to be able to find a sitter, interview her and book her so we could go on a USO trip to Agriturismo La Grotta this past Friday.
The venue is essentially this amazing, family-run restaurant built into a cave. It’s up in the Milky Mountains surrounding Naples, across from Mt. Vesuvius. There they grow their own produce, make their own wine and cheese and run the restaurant. It was pretty amazing. The food was awesome and the wine was incredible. The setting was just amazing, such a wonderful experience!
We had the traditional Italian dinner. First we had bread and wine, then the appetizer plates. After that came two different types of pasta. Then the steak, with salad and potatoes. Finally, the Tiramasu for dessert. Enjoy the photo of my empty plate. It looked so good that I forgot to take a photo until it was gone! The last “course” was a choice of a shot of local limoncello or cafe (coffee). We went for the liquor!
After dinner we walked up the trails on the side of the mountain and watched fireworks over the skyline of Naples and God’s own show… an amazing lightening storm behind Mt. Vesuvius. It was an experience we will remember for many, many years! Our fifth anniversary celebrated in Italy and our first date night since moving! <3
Aw what a cute way to spend your anniversary! Happy belated 5 years!
